Aquatic Barley Straw Extract is the natural eco-friendly way to limit new algae growth in lakes, dams, ponds, fountains, water features, fish tanks and garden water tanks.

Aquatic Barley Straw Extract is the new development from the traditional old time remedy for algae control using barley straw bales. The use of barley straw bales for the control of algae in water has been well documented in Europe and can be traced back to the pre industrial era, when farming and agriculture prevailed.

When barley straw bales are placed in water, they begin to decompose. This process of decomposition releases phenolic compounds, these compounds have a natural signature similar to that of hydrogen peroxide. It is these natural compounds that are believed to be the factor which give barley straw its natural ability to limit new growth of algae.

Some of the limitations of using barley straw bales is that they need to be correctly placed in the water body, loosely bundled and require adequate circulation in a well oxygenated water body. Barley straw bales can take
from 4 to 8 weeks for the decomposition process to commence working, so is relatively slow to take effect. It can look unsightly and produce some odours.

Due to some of these limitations of using barley straw bales, Aquatic Barley Straw Extract has been developed as a convenient way to deliver the same benefits of limiting new algae growth which is natural, eco friendly and safe.

Aquatic Barley Straw Extract is made from all natural, Australian grown barley and is a 100% Australian made product which is grown, harvested, processed and distributed by Australian owned and operated companies. It’s a highly concentrated extract which can be delivered quickly and easily to limit new algae growth in lakes, dams, ponds, fountains, water features, fish tanks and garden water tanks. The product is manufactured for Australian conditions and water bodies.

Directions

Aquatic Barley Straw Extract is best applied before algae appears as it works best as an algae growth suppressant, limiting new algae growth. It’s ideal for use immediately after a pond, fountain, water feature or fish tank re fill or in lakes, dams, and ponds, prior to algae first appearing or in garden water tanks all year round.

Determine the volume of water to be treated, tip the container upside-down to gently mix, measure the required amount of product and pour directly into the water body to be treated.

Application rates:

For enclosed garden water tanks: Apply 10mls of Aquatic Barley Straw Extract per 200L of water or part thereof and re-apply monthly at a maintenance dossage of 7.5mls per 200L of water or part thereof.

For small indoor fish tanks and water features: Apply an initial dosage of 10mls of Aquatic Barley Straw Extract per 100L of water or part thereof and apply weekly at a maintenance dosage of 7.5ml per 100L water or part thereof.

For small outdoor ponds, fountains or water features, less than 2,000L: Apply an initial dosage of 20mls of Aquatic Barley Straw Extract per 100L water or part thereof and apply weekly at a maintenance dosage of 15mls per 100L water or part thereof.

For larger ponds and dams, greater than 2,000L but less than 10,000L: Apply an initial dosage of 60mls of Aquatic Barley Straw Extract per 2,000L water or part thereof and apply weekly at a maintenance dosage of 30mls per 2,000L water or part thereof.

For larger ponds and dams, greater than 10,000L: Apply an initial dosage of 20L of Aquatic Barley Straw Extract per 1mega litre of water or part thereof and apply fortnightly to monthly at a maintenance dosage of 10L per 1mega litre of water or part thereof, from early spring, through summer. During autumn and winter the maintenance dosage is applied monthly to bi-monthly.

For water with high turbity, or poor water clarity apply an additional 20% more product, until clarity improves.
